91精选 graduates reflected on their academic journey and the road ahead for them after graduation during the Spring 2019 Baccalaureate Assembly in the Little Theater in David H. Bradford Hall.
鈥淐ongratulations to class of 2019,鈥 Interim Provost and Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs Dr. Lucian Yates III said. 鈥淜eep on dreaming. Nothing happens without a dream. You鈥檙e here today because you鈥檝e been dreaming.鈥
National recording artist Chrisette Michele presented a song of encouragement, 鈥淏e Grateful,鈥 which brought the audience to its feet.
Dr. Stashia Emmanuel, Vice Provost for Academic and Student Affairs, provided an inspirational reading.
鈥淵ou stood the test of time,鈥 Emmanuel said. 鈥淵ou worked hard. Worked double shifts so you can stand and be counted among those with a degree. One path has ended. Another has begun.鈥
Emmanuel also delivered the necrology report, remembering and honoring Thorobreds who passed away in 2019.
Dr. W. Franklin Evans, president of Voorhees College, delivered the baccalaureate address.
Evans focused on seeking God on your left side.
Evans said God moves openly on the right side, doing work in a person鈥檚 life anyone can see.
鈥淲hen we鈥檙e living on the left side, we think God has forgotten us,鈥 Evans said. 鈥淭here are still times when God moves quietly, behind the scenes. Times when you can鈥檛 discern him.鈥
Evans said God鈥檚 blessings are just as good from the left side as they are on the right.
鈥淪eek God. Search for God,鈥 Evans said. 鈥淣ever think he鈥檚 not around.鈥
