The artwork and photography of Dishayna Perkins 鈥22 will be on display on the entire second and third-floor galleries of the Lexington Public Library (Central Library) Feb. 1 鈥 Mar. 31. The art exhibit titled, 鈥淢y Peoples鈥 will celebrate African and African American culture.
The mass communications & journalism graduate is the CEO, host and editor-in-chief of Kentucky Good Vibes, a Lexington-based multimedia company that publishes a magazine, podcast, television show as well as provides photography and public relations.
About the exhibit, Perkins says that, 鈥淧eople can expect to see unique, cultural exhibits that symbolize my people.鈥 It will showcase, 鈥渒ings and queens and people dressed in royal African attire, not the images we grew up seeing in the textbooks.鈥
The two-month exhibit allows Perkins to showcase art that celebrates both Black History and Women鈥檚 History months, consecutively.
The women鈥檚 history celebration will begin in February with the first annual 鈥淨ueen Me鈥 Women鈥檚 Conference Feb. 11 at the library. The Women鈥檚 Conference will feature guest speakers and live performances and the opportunity to network with other businesswomen.
鈥淢y reward is being able to do what God put me here to do,鈥 Perkins said. 鈥淚 like bringing people together and making a difference. That鈥檚 my purpose in life.鈥
