Dr. Philip Clay, Jr., Interim Director of Graduate Studies, has published a book titled, What You Need to Know About Special Education as a Parent and Teacher.

鈥淭he inspiration for writing What You Need to Know About Special Education as a Parent and Teacher was born from a deep and personal understanding of the challenges, uncertainties, and emotions that surround the journey of supporting children with special needs. As both an educator and an advocate, I have witnessed firsthand how the path of special education is often overwhelming for families and confusing for teachers who strive to provide the best support possible,鈥 explained Dr. Clay.

鈥淭his book was written as a bridge鈥攁 guide to empower both parents and educators. It is designed to demystify the language of special education, clarify processes and best practices, and encourage collaborative partnerships that place the child鈥檚 needs at the center of decision-making,鈥 he continued. 鈥淭he aim is not just to inform, but to inspire action: for parents to advocate with confidence and for teachers to teach with compassion and creativity.鈥

Dr. Clay currently serves as Interim Director of Graduate Studies and Associate Professor in the School of Education. He has over 25 years of experience in the field of education, educating students from grades kindergarten to college in both the regular and special education setting.
